My Philosophy
Design Philosophy
I believe great design is clear, functional, and inclusive. It's not just about solving problems. It's about solving the right ones in ways that uplift and empower people.
I follow the Double Diamond framework because it gives structure to creativity—guiding me through understanding real problems before exploring and delivering effective solutions. Accessibility is embedded throughout, never treated as an afterthought.
I also integrate AI meaningfully into my process. It supports my research, helps me generate and refine ideas, and speeds up decision-making. But I always keep human insight and empathy at the heart of every design.
Discover
I begin by understanding the problem space. I gather insights through user interviews, stakeholder conversations, and competitive and market research. I also use AI tools to help me analyze large volumes of data, identify trends, and uncover user pain points more efficiently.
Goal: Build a deep understanding of the users and the problem.
Define
Next, I synthesize what I've learned. I look for patterns, define user needs, and frame clear problem statements. I create user personas and journey maps to ensure the team is aligned on the right problem to solve.
Goal: Clearly define the design challenge based on research.
Develop
With the problem well-defined, I begin ideating. I explore multiple solutions through sketching, wireframing, and prototyping. I use AI to help generate concepts, visualize variations, and expand my creative thinking. Accessibility is considered from the very beginning.
Goal: Develop and refine possible solutions informed by feedback.
Deliver
I translate the best ideas into high-fidelity designs and interactive prototypes. I test them with real users and gather feedback for refinement. I work closely with developers to ensure the final product is built to spec, accessible, and ready for launch. Post-launch, I continue gathering insights and iterating.
Goal: Deliver a solution that's effective, inclusive, and user-validated.
Accessibility Approach
How I ensure my designs are inclusive and accessible to users
Accessibility is integrated into every phase of my design process. I believe that designing for accessibility benefits users, not just those with disabilities. Here's how I approach accessibility in my work:
Automated Testing
- WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool
- Axe by Deque
- Lighthouse Accessibility Audit
- Color Contrast Analyzers
Manual Testing
- Keyboard Navigation Testing
- Screen Reader Testing (NVDA, VoiceOver)
- Zoom/Magnification Testing
- Reduced Motion Simulation
Design Considerations
- WCAG 2.1 & 2.2 AA Compliance
- Semantic HTML Structure
- Focus States and Tab Order
- Alternative Text for Images
- Responsive Design for All Devices
